is it really healthcare?

a few things tonight, in the matter-a-fact kind of way.

1. for the most part, for the 10 years that i have owned my car, it has gone to the same mechanic, at the dealership, yes, yes, i know what you are thinking, 'the dealership? what a rip off!' yes, and it is exactly that. however, anyplace that has to do with me and my car = rip off, cars are just that way, unless you are a gearhead. anyhow, i realized that i have probably seen more doctors (regular primary care physicians) for regular check ups and the occasional strep throat visits, then my car has seen mechanics. what does this mean? what can i deduct from this?

a. hmo's and health insurance suck, in all forms, even when you are saving money by having it, isn't the time you spend to sort it all out make it just as expensive?

b. my car is spoiled and i have never met another mechanic that i can trust, so i wind up trusting a name brand, the dealership.

c. i have spent more money on my car than i have my health care. apparently i am healthier than my car.

2. okay--- the other realization that ties into this quite nicely is that, my co-worker, with the same hmo, has to wait at least 8 days before a doctor can take a biopsy of the tumor they found in his wrist. would you just die? my god! eight days... because of the rules of insurance.

both healthcare logistics and automotive repair just suck. i am sure i will learn this lesson over and over and over again. i think you will too.

ps: i don't know why i am comparing these two industries, and if i thought about it a little bit more i could probably come up with a thesis about the both of them. i am just bitching and moaning about the system, comparing how a service is not a service at all, it all seems to be a money trap.
