so.

on valentine's day i went and saw a show at the troubadour. a band called desaparecidos. i liked the show, reminded me of the many at the drive in shows that i saw at the very same venue. i have been listening to the cd for the past few days, moving into each of the songs. i have picked out my favorite first impressions which i am sure will change after i listen to the album a few more times through. the interesting thing, is that, the album is all about consumerism, the middle class, working to go shopping, loss, love, suburbia, marriage, tract housing developments, the computer, the armed forces.

the album is almost like a book, a critique of homogenized american middle class culture. i found that the lyrics are quite insightful for the 21 year conor oberst. i would recommend this album if you were/are an at the drive in fan... and if not, i still recommend it.

"i'm growing out my hair like it was when i was single. it was longer than i'd known you. i had no money then. i had no worries then at all. But with such a high standard of living i just feel like i am dying. i would start and argument but you can barely even talk. but there is always good reason for your silence. you have to take care of some business. so i fix your plate and i stay out of the way. and you will stay like that forever, right in front of your computer. you'll look up one day but you won't recognize me."
