thumbsucker.
as i approached the ticket window, Fonzie, you know, Henry Winkler, put his hand out for me to go ahead of him in line. He smiled, and upon recognition, my eyes lit up and i smiled and said, "thanks," not to take a second look back at him. a star sighting of sorts. as i found my perfect seat in the theater i imagined the whole place filling up with my childhood TV and movie stars, one after another filing in. webster, punky bruster, the entire happy days cast, laverne and shirly, jack tripper and three's company and more i am sure. then i was thinking, what a great sweepstakes it would be to win a date to the movies with all your favorite stars. just you and all the stars you could think of. the irony of it, is that you could be in the theater with all these people that you have watched countless hours of TV with and they would not even know who you are. you would be on a date with total strangers. and isn't that what all first dates are really like? a total stranger, that you try to get to know through all sorts of signs, signals and conversation. first dates are about observation.
anyhow... the movie was quite good. Lou Taylor Pucci's performance was great. i recommend the film. Out of the past few films i have seen over the past month, "you and everyone we know," "the baxter," "2046," "broken flowers," I liked this one the most. I am looking forward to seeing "shopgirl." Steve Martin is definitely one of my favorites.
