ooo, the rush on friday night to get out of work early (7pm) and drive a hundred miles north to santa barbara was quite sucessful to catch the evenings entertainment. my sister and i ventured to the 'living room.' a youth center type atmosphere, all ages, where many a -insert favorite undergroundish genre/band here- plays. we made it in time to see a band by the name of counterfeit, (the one from san diego, not from denmark) as well as the headliner for the evening, mock orange.

now, i had never seen mock orange play before, and they didn't book a show in LA, hence, the drive north. (my sister and i also had plans to stay nearby and do some early christmas shopping the following day... then have an early thanksgiving dinner at a longstanding friends house.. it was actually our 6th year in a row for this early indulgence in wonderful "eat and be merry" friendship celebration...)the weekend was planned to be fun and productive.

now, yes, it looked as if mock orange wasn't going to show up to play. apparently their van, broke down earlier in the day and they had their own fiasco to deal with. so we waited. once they arrived, they played a short yet very good set. i was pleased. it was nice just to be out of LA for a second.

however, this morning, my sister got the phone call that dinner would be canceled for a number of reasons. saturday, didn't turn out to be a shopping day in sb, and i didn't get to skate either. but, the night ended up in the sanctum of my sister's house watching the godfather part I.

part II and III will be shown tomorrow.

i guess, all of this amounts to... hmm, i am not quite sure. this amounts to trying to remember not to be too consumed with expectations... things don't always work out as planned, and usually, plans have to be altered to reach your goal.
